About the department

V.V. Popovskyy Department of Infocommunication Engineering belongs to the Faculty of Infocommunications at Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics.

The Department was founded in 1975.

1975-1999 – Department of Multichannel Electrocommunication;

1999-2016 – Department of Telecommunication Systems;

2016-2018 – Department of Infocommunication Engineering (ICE);

2018 – to date – V.V. Popovskyy Department of Infocommunication Engineering.

Currently V.V. Popovskyy Department of Infocommunication Engineering prepares specialists in the first (Bachelor's), second (Master's), third (educational-scientific) and scientific levels in specialties: 125 "Cybersecurity and Information Protection", 126 "Information systems and technologies" and 172 "Electronic Communications and Radio Engineering".

Bachelor’s training is carried out according to the following programs:

educational program "Information Security Management" (specialty 125 "Cybersecurity and Information Protection");

educational program "Information systems and technologies" (specialty 126 "Information systems and technologies");

educational program "Infocommunication engineering and network security" (specialty 172 "Electronic Communications and Radio Engineering");

educational program "Telecommunications" (specialty 172 "Electronic Communications and Radio Engineering").

Master's degree training is carried out according to the following programs:

educational program " Administrative Management in Information Security " (specialty 125 "Cybersecurity and Information Protection");

educational program "Infocommunication Engineering" (specialty 172 "Electronic Communications and Radio Engineering");

educational program "Telecommunication Systems and Networks" (specialty 172 " Electronic Communications and Radio Engineering ").

The department is named after V.V. Popovskyy. Professor Volodymyr Popovskyy headed the department from 1992 to 2018. During those years, under his leadership, a powerful scientific and pedagogical team was created from scratch, new state-of-the-art laboratories were deployed, new specialties and educational programs were opened. Professor V.V. Popovskyy is the author of more than 300 scientific works, including 6 monographs, 11 methodological teaching aids, 8 textbooks. More than 60 PhD and 14 Doctoral dissertations were defended under his supervision.

The department annually admits about 150 entrants from Ukraine and other countries for full-time, part-time and postgraduate studies. There is also training in English.

Highly qualified teachers are engaged in the learning process, including 9 Doctors of Science, Professors; 20 Candidates of Sciences, Associate Professors. The average age of a teacher is around 47 years. All of them have qualifications in accordance with the specialties in which the applicants are trained, conduct scientific activities, supervise the scientific work of applicants, have sufficient work experience and timely undergo upgrade training or internship. To improve the quality of education for the preparation of applicants, the Department attracts leading specialists and production practitioners.

V.V. Popovskyy ICE Department is equipped with modern communication, network, server equipment and computers, which are combined into 15 educational, training and research laboratories and computer classrooms. The list of laboratories is constantly expanding and updated. For example, in the 2018/19 academic year, the training and research Cybersecurity & Cloud Laboratory was introduced into the educational process, and in the 2019/20 academic year, two laboratories were introduced: the Routing & Switching Laboratory and the Network Security & Resilience Laboratory. The laboratories of the Department use communication and server equipment of Cisco, Juniper, Hewlett-Packard, D-Link, Samsung, Panasonic, ISKRATEL, TP-Link, ZYXEL, etc. Hardware firewalls are manufactured by Cisco and Fortinet. Manufacturers of personal computers and laptops are Dell, Acer, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Compaq.

All classrooms of the Department, where students study, are equipped with new furniture, air conditioners and multimedia projectors.

At V.V. Popovskyy ICE Department students can receive diplomas from NURE and other European universities. A similar program already operates with BTH University (Karlskrona, Sweden). Agreements with universities in Poland, Portugal, Spain, Slovakia and Turkey are to be signed. To participate in these programs, students must pass a competitive selection, in which the main requirements are the desire to learn and knowledge of English.
