Students of V. V. Popovskyy ICE Department took part in the CTF-competition within the CYBER EDUCATION DAY 2021
On 30-31 August 2021, the National Cyber Security Coordination Centre of Ukraine in cooperation with CRDF Global in Ukraine supported by the US Department of State conducted a two-day course on "Network Vulnerability and Ethical Hacking" prepared by Purdue University (USA) for specialists of the main actors in ensuring cybersecurity and critical infrastructure. As part of the CYBER EDUCATION DAY 2021 event, a CTF competition was organised and held among students from various Ukrainian universities. A total of 62 students from over 200 applications from 14 universities were selected to participate in the competition.
According to the legend, participants worked as special agents and investigated financing Crimea to circumvent sanctions by using cryptocurrency. The students worked on forensic, web, network, mobile, blockchain in detailed scenarios prescribed by the organisers. They successfully found flags on the network, restored access to a bitcoin wallet, found information in the source code of a mobile phone, picked up the administrator password, raised privileges through the SUID flag, identified the source of funding and ways to launder money in a given wallet, and so on. A total of 62 students from over 200 applications from 14 universities were selected to participate in the competition.
The team of the students of V.V. Popovskyy ICE Department KHNURE took 5th place out of 10 teams, which is quite a high result for students of mainly 2-3 years, who participated in such an event for the first time.
